In 1750 Henry Burmester and John Nash established the Burmester, Nash & Co. brand and began exporting Port wine from Vila Nova de Gaia to the rest of Europe.
The company was passed down from generation to generation until 1834, when Johan Wilhelm Burmester (JWB), a direct descendant of Henry Burmester, arrived in Porto unaware that a new family dynasty would begin. Their decisions showed character and courage.
Starting as a simple employee in an indebted company, he became the manager and took the company forward with all the rights and responsibilities.

In 1880 he changed the name of the company to J.W. Burmester & Co. Aware of the social expansion that was taking place in Europe, he decided to buy other businesses to complement his own.
After his death in 1885, his sons took over.
In 1992 the production of wines with DOC Douro began, which are very well accepted by the market.
