The oenological and viticultural tradition of the southwestern region of Asturias dates back to the Middle Ages, around the ninth century, with the emergence of the first monasteries that took advantage of the soils available for the cultivation of vines in an area that had terraces sheltered by mountainous masses, ideal for the reception of abundant solar radiation. The bonanza of the climate of the region made that the vineyards of high mountain will be concentrated in this part of Asturias, coinciding with the deep valleys of the rivers Navia and Narcea, and thus the culture of the wine - that had as one of its main referents the Monastery of Corias - arrived until our days, acquiring in the last lustrums this tradition force and mark vitivinícola in the panorama of the wine in Spain. Wines and wineries with their tastings and visits, the Grape Harvest Festival - declared of Tourist Interest -, the Wine Museum in Santiso, etc. are tangible heritage of the wine culture in Asturias.
