Wine area - Paarl
Paarl is a South African wine-growing area located northeast of Cape Town. It is located in the valley caused by the Berg River, in terrain of granitic composition. They enjoy a Mediterranean climate tempered by the oceans and the Bengal current. The most relevant grape varieties are the red Shiraz (Syrah), Pinotage, the only native grape and Mourvedre, and the white Steen (Sémillon) and Viogner. These are Mediterranean grapes that have adapted very well to the climate that Paarl offers. The vineyard reached South Africa in the 17th century, and Paarl was one of the most powerful areas in terms of wine production. Nowadays we can find all types of wines, from light and agile wines to more structured wines.
