More info about -1 red wine San Cucufate Bancales De Jalón 2018 - home

San Cucufate Bancales de Jalón is a red wine of great personality and rustic character due to the harsh conditions faced by the vineyard. It consists of 1.4 hectares of vineyards that extend along the slopes of the Los Bancales estate. Among them, there are different autochthonous plants that give personality to the wine. It is made in the conventional way, with the grapes harvested by hand and aged in barrels for various uses.

TASTING NOTES:

Sight: Bigarreau cherry red colour with garnet reflections.

Nose: Intense aromas of ripe red and black fruit and aromatic herbs accompanied by subtle toasted and spicy aromas on a balsamic background.

Palate: In the mouth it is full-bodied, powerful and intense. It has a silky and enveloping passage with well-marked but very polished tannins. With a broad, persistent finish and a well-balanced acidity.

APPELLATION OF ORIGIN: Ribera del Duero.

WINEMAKING: Made from 100% Tinto Fino grapes.

AGEING: Slow and gentle ageing of about 16 months in barrels of different uses.

CURIOSITIES: In the middle of the 11th century, the Benefictionos monks built the monastery of San Cucucfate in the vicinity of the estate. The current vineyards were the monastery's cultivated land in the 11th century. Over the years, the monastery was renamed San Cobate. This is where the name of the winery comes from. Ten centuries later, in 2016, Antonio Vázquez Muñoz-Calero embarked on an exciting project in San Cobate with the aim of making wines that respect the personality of its plots, its soils, its grape variety, Tinto Fino, a classic of Ribera del Duero, giving a discreet role to the wood of its carefully selected barrels so that the terroir and the fruit are the protagonists of these wines.
