Tasting Note
The grapes come from vines planted at an altitude of 550 meters, at the foot of the Alce mountain, municipality of Alfaro, in La Rioja baja. Its soils are mainly calcareous, clay-ferrous and with a lot of boulders. The climate is Mediterranean, with the influence of the Atlantic, with a large temperature difference between winter and summer, which allows an excellent ripening of the grapes. The harvest is done manually, taking advantage of the hours of low solar intensity to keep the grapes fresh. Once in the cellar, the grape is destemmed and goes through a process of selection before performing a low temperature maceration for 23 days to extract all the aromas.
La Montesa carries out fermentation in stainless steel tanks for three weeks. Once finished, it goes to French (90%) and American (10%) oak barrels where it is aged for 12 months. 20% are new barrels, 30% barrels of a single wine, 25% barrel of two wines and 25% barrels of three wines.
Curiosity
La Montesa is a red wine from the D.O.Ca. La Rioja elaborated by Bodegas Palacios Remondo. Your technical director, Álvaro Palacios , is known for making one of the most coveted wines of Spain, L'Ermita, in his cellar del Priorat.
