CURIOSITIES: Niepoort is a Portuguese winery founded in 1842. It is currently run by Dirk Niepoort, the fifth generation of the family that gives it its name. They practise traditional Portuguese techniques such as treading the grapes, fermentation in cement tanks or ageing in pipe, 550-litre barrels for ageing port wine, and at the same time they have new technologies that allow them to work the grapes with the utmost care. They have vineyards in different locations, some of them centuries old, and they have their ageing cellar in the town of Vila Nova de Gaia.
