A magical story that begins in the Villa de Lousã in a pharmacy. Licor Beirão was made more than a century ago as if it were a medicine.
A port wine merchant who passed through Lousã fell in love with the pharmacist's daughter and ended up getting married. In the pharmacy, in addition to the usual medicines, "natural liqueurs" were marketed according to old formulas kept secret. However, a law came into force prohibiting the attribution of medicinal properties to alcoholic beverages. Taking advantage of the opportunity, the young man from the north carries out the autonomy of the production of nectars, by the same artisan processes, in a small factory.
But the name of Licor Beirão does not appear by chance. In 1929, a Beirão Congress was held in Castelo Branco and the liquor was named in homage to the meeting. The difficulties brought about by the Second World War meant that the factory was sold in 1940 to a young man from Lousã, José Carranca Redondo, who had worked there for some time. With little more than twenty years and nevertheless married, he decides to invest his savings buying the house and the secret, dedicating body and soul to the liquor that happened to be made by the woman. Since then, sales have not stopped growing, becoming today a very successful liquor.
