Talisker is a single malt distillery produced by Talisker, Carbost, Scotland, the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. The distillery is operated by United Distillers and Vintners for Diageo, and is marketed as part of its series Classic Malts. The brand is sold as a premium whiskey.
Talisker is a single malt distillery produced by Talisker, Carbost, Scotland, the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. The distillery is operated by United Distillers and Vintners for Diageo, and is marketed as part of its series Classic Malts. The brand is sold as a premium whiskey. The distillery was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill, and built in 1831 in Carbost after several failed attempts elsewhere when they acquired the lease of Talisker House MacLeod of MacLeod. The distillery was rebuilt and expanded 1880-1887 in 1900. When a new lease for the distillery was negotiated with the MacLeod clan chief in 1892 the annual payment should be £ 23.12s and ten-gallon barrel of Talisker better quality. It was rebuilt in 1960 after a fire completely destroyed the stillhouse distillery. The distillery operates five distilleries, two stills and three spirit stills. All distillation apparatus use worm tubs (condensing coils) instead of a modern condenser, which is believed to give fuller flavor whiskey (itself an indication higher sugar content). During this first period, the whiskey was produced using a method of triple distillation, but switched to the more conventional double distillation 1928.Talisker was acquired by the company Distillers in 1925 and is now part of Diageo. After the fire of 1960, five exact replicas of the original still images were built to preserve the original flavor Talisker. In 1972, the stills were converted to steam heating and malting plant was demolished. Talisker water comes from springs directly above the distillery through a network of pipes and wells.
